When Sarah’s Mom Comes Over Hysterical
#KountryWayne
It was just another quiet evening for Sarah. She had finally kicked off her shoes, curled up on the couch, and was about to dive into her favorite TV show when a loud, frantic knock shattered the peace.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Sarah’s heart jumped. That wasn’t a normal knock. That was the kind of knock that made your stomach tighten. She rushed to the door, pulling it open to see her mother standing there, wild-eyed and breathing heavily.
“Mama?” Sarah’s voice was filled with concern.
Tears streamed down her mother’s face as she pushed her way inside, gripping Sarah’s arms. “Oh, Lord, Sarah! I—I don’t know what to do!”
Sarah immediately led her mother to the couch. “Sit down, Mama. Breathe. What’s wrong?”
Her mother wiped her face, trying to catch her breath, but her hands were shaking. “I just—I got a call… and—” She looked up at Sarah, eyes filled with panic. “They told me something happened to your Uncle Ray. ”
Sarah’s heart dropped. “What happened?”
“They said he collapsed at the gas station,” her mother sobbed. “Paramedics came, but they wouldn’t tell me nothing else. I don’t know if he’s okay! I don’t know what’s happening!”
Sarah grabbed her mother’s hands, squeezing them tight. “Mama, listen to me. Uncle Ray is strong. We don’t know anything for sure yet, so we ain’t about to jump to the worst.”
Her mother shook her head. “But what if—”
Sarah cut her off gently. “No. We’re not gonna what if. We’re gonna pray.”
Her mother’s breath was still shaky, but she nodded.
Sarah bowed her head, holding her mother’s trembling hands. “Heavenly Father, we come to You right now, asking for Your peace. Lord, whatever is going on with Uncle Ray, we trust that You are in control. We ask for healing, for strength, and for comfort in this moment. We cast out fear and replace it with faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Her mother exhaled deeply, some of the tension leaving her body. “Amen,” she whispered.
A moment later, her phone rang. Both women jumped. Sarah’s mom fumbled to grab it, her fingers shaking as she put it on speaker. “Hello?”
A calm voice came through the line. “Miss Johnson? We wanted to update you on your brother. He had a fainting spell due to dehydration, but he’s awake and alert now. He’ll be fine after some rest and fluids.”
Sarah’s mom gasped, covering her mouth. Relief washed over her face as tears welled in her eyes again—this time, tears of gratitude. “Thank you, Jesus!”
Sarah smiled, rubbing her mother’s back. “See? God had him covered the whole time.”
Her mother laughed through her tears, shaking her head. “Girl, you sound just like your grandmama.”
Sarah grinned. “That’s ‘cause Grandma always knew—faith over fear, every time.”
And just like that, what started as panic turned into praise.
