THE CONFRONTATION BEGINS
Bethany stormed into the living room, hands trembling, face pale. Larry, sorting paperwork, looked up, startled.
BETHANY: Larry… why didn’t you say anything when Lynette threatened me?!
Tears stream down her cheeks, voice cracking.
LARRY: Bethany… I—I didn’t know it had gotten so serious. Why didn’t you tell me sooner?
BETHANY: Because I didn’t want you involved! You always get caught up in everything, and I thought… I could handle it myself!
LARRY'S REASSURANCE
Larry sighs, running a hand over his face, feeling the weight of her words.
LARRY: Bethany, you don’t have to handle threats alone. That’s what I’m here for.
BETHANY: Do you have any idea how scared I was? Lynette… she wasn’t just being mean—she was trying to intimidate me. And you were there. You saw it and said nothing!
Larry recalls the incident vividly, guilt tightening his chest.
GUILT AND PROMISES
LARRY: Bethany, I…
BETHANY: No! Don’t you dare ‘I’ me, Larry! I needed you! And you did nothing!
He moves to sit beside her, careful not to crowd her space.
LARRY: I promise you, I will never let anyone threaten you like that again. I swear.
BETHANY: Do you even understand what it feels like… to be cornered by someone like Lynette? To feel powerless?
LARRY: I do now. And I will do whatever it takes to make sure you never feel that way again.
VOWS OF PROTECTION
BETHANY: Larry… promise me you’ll be there next time. No hesitation. No standing back. No silence.
LARRY: I promise. I swear. From now on, you’ll never face anything like this alone.
Bethany exhales slowly, relief mixed with lingering fear.
BETHANY: It’s just… sometimes I feel like everyone leaves me to deal with this alone. I thought… even you wouldn’t care this time.
LARRY: Bethany, I care more than you know. I will always be here. I can’t undo the past, but I can fight for you now—and in the future.
RELIEF AND DETERMINATION
The room falls silent. Outside, the wind rattles the windows, echoing the turbulence of emotions.
BETHANY: You better keep that promise, Larry.
LARRY: I will. No one threatens you… not Lynette, not anyone.
She leans back against the sofa, exhausted but relieved. A flicker of safety, an assurance Larry will shield her when the world becomes too cruel.
Both know this is only the beginning. Lynette’s cunning, threats, and influence are far from over. But for now, Larry tightens his grip on Bethany’s hand, determination burning in his eyes.
The clock ticks quietly—a reminder that danger could return at any moment. But for now, Bethany feels heard, protected, and not alone.
