THE WAITING ROOM
Fluorescent lights hum overhead. Monitors beep faintly in the distance. The waiting area is packed with anxious faces, but tension clings thickest around Bethany.
BETHANY: “I can’t believe this! I need to be in the room—I have to see this!” 😤
CONTROL ON THE EDGE
Jayden sits rigidly in a plastic chair, jaw clenched so tight it looks painful. His eyes flick between Bethany and Larry, trying to keep the situation from detonating.
JAYDEN: “Bethany… please. Calm down.”
BETHANY: “Calm down?! You think I can calm down while everything’s happening and I’m stuck out here?!”
TEMPERATURE RISING
Jayden’s fists clench on his knees. His breathing speeds up, controlled but strained. Larry shifts uncomfortably, sensing what’s coming.
LARRY: “Let’s just talk. We can figure this out—”
JAYDEN: “No, Larry. Enough.”
THE COMMAND
Jayden stands suddenly. The room goes dead silent. Even strangers feel it—the line has been crossed.
JAYDEN: “Take everyone. Now.”
Bethany freezes, shock rippling across her face.
BETHANY: “Jayden… what?”
JAYDEN: “Take them all and leave. I don’t want anyone in here right now.”
AFTERMATH
Larry gulps, nodding as he begins guiding family members out of the waiting area.
LARRY: “I’ll… I’ll take care of it.”
Bethany crosses her arms, chest heaving, eyes locked on Jayden.
BETHANY: “You’re not going to leave me out here… are you?”
THE TRUTH
JAYDEN: “I’m not leaving you. I’m protecting this moment—from chaos. From this.”
Something shifts in Bethany’s expression. The anger falters, replaced by understanding.
BETHANY: “I… I just wanted to see it.”
JAYDEN: “And you will. But right now, breathe. Trust me.”
THE DOOR OPENS
A nurse peeks out from the delivery room, concern etched on her face.
NURSE: “Everything’s stable, but we need the room cleared for a few minutes.”
Jayden exhales slowly. Bethany steps closer, placing a tentative hand on his arm.
BETHANY: “I didn’t mean to push you that far.”
JAYDEN: “I know. But there’s a line… and you crossed it.”
A FRAGILE PEACE
A baby’s cry pierces the air. Everything stops.
BETHANY: “It’s… it’s here.”
Jayden steps aside, allowing her a small glimpse through the door window. Larry returns, nodding.
LARRY: “You’re clear.”
Bethany exhales, grounded at last, as Jayden stands behind her—silent, protective—guarding the moment they nearly lost to the storm.
