One phone call.
One ultimatum.
And a choice that could change everything.
1. Late Afternoon Silence
It was late afternoon, the sun slipping behind gray clouds and casting a muted glow across Larry’s living room. The room was quiet except for the ticking wall clock and the distant hum of traffic.
Larry sat slouched on the sofa, a mug of cold coffee in his hand, lost in thought. Then his phone buzzed sharply on the table.
The name on the screen made his heart tighten. Lynette.
2. The Call
Larry exhaled slowly and answered, trying to keep his voice steady.
LARRY: Hello…? 📞
LYNETTE: Larry! 😡 I just found out Bethany wants to go to Montana with you! How could you even let this happen?! 😤
Larry ran a hand through his hair. He had expected this, but hearing her anger made it real.
LARRY: Lynette… calm down. I haven’t decided anything yet. Bethany is just… thinking aloud. 😅
LYNETTE: Don’t give me excuses! 😠 You don’t need to go there at all! If Bethany goes, then YOU don’t go either. You hear me? NONE! ❌
3. The Ultimatum
Frustration surged through Larry, mixed with helplessness. He wanted to explain, to reason, but Lynette didn’t slow down.
LARRY: I understand, Lynette. I just don’t want to make things worse. 😟
LYNETTE: Listen carefully! 😡 You stay right where you are. You are NOT invited. Stay home with your wife. Do not involve yourself in Montana. Got it? ❗
Larry closed his eyes, gripping the phone tighter. Her words pressed down on him like a weight.
LARRY: I hear you… I really do. I just… 😔
LYNETTE: I don’t want to hear anything else. This is final. 😤
4. After the Line Went Dead
The call ended before Larry could respond. He stared at the black screen of his phone as the room suddenly felt smaller, the shadows darker.
Bethany’s excitement echoed in his mind—her hopeful voice, her plans for Montana. But Lynette’s words drowned everything out.
“Stay where you are. You are not invited.”
5. A Man Caught Between Two Worlds
Larry walked to the window, watching the clouds drift as rain began tapping softly against the glass. The world outside was calm, unaware of the storm inside him.
LARRY (whispering): Why does it have to be this complicated…? 😔
He picked up his phone, hesitated, then set it down. Every instinct told him to call Bethany. Another part of him froze, afraid of Lynette’s fury.
6. The Storm Isn’t Over
The phone buzzed again. Lynette.
Larry ignored it, letting the call go to voicemail. He sank back into the sofa, staring at the empty coffee mug.
Montana. Bethany’s smile. Then Lynette’s anger—sharp and uncompromising.
Outside, the rain fell harder, echoing the storm inside Larry’s heart.
He didn’t move. He didn’t answer the next call.
He just sat there, knowing the decision he avoided was already shaping his future.
