Morning Tension
Golden light streamed through the curtains, stretching across the living room floor like quiet witnesses. Larry paced back and forth, his steps heavy, deliberate, filled with tension he could no longer contain.
Brooke and Destiny sat side by side on the couch, silent. They could feel it — the pressure in the air, the sense that something irreversible was about to happen.
“Brooke… Destiny…” Larry said slowly. “I need you both to go to Sharra’s for now.”
The weight in his voice left no room for argument. Brooke exchanged a worried glance with Destiny.
Unanswered Questions
“But why, Dad?” Brooke asked, her voice tight with concern.
“Are you okay?” Destiny added softly.
Larry hesitated, jaw tightening. He looked at them as if memorizing their faces.
“I’ll explain later. Just… go. It’s better this way.”
He handed them instructions, his hands trembling despite his attempt to stay composed. The door closed behind them with a final click that echoed through the house.
The Breaking Point
Bethany stepped forward, anxiety etched into every line of her face.
“Larry… where are you going?”
He exhaled slowly, fists clenched at his sides.
“I’m tired, Bethany. I can’t keep doing this. I need space… from you.”
Disbelief flashed across her face, quickly replaced by anger.
“Space? You’re just running away!”
Larry shook his head, sadness flickering behind his eyes.
“No. I just can’t stay.”
Leaving
Before Bethany could respond, Larry grabbed his bag and walked out. The door shut behind him with a finality that echoed like a verdict.
Outside, the morning air hit him hard. He walked to the car without looking back, every step a boundary he refused to cross again.
The drive passed in silence. Roads blurred together as his thoughts drifted toward the mountains ahead — Montana, distant and quiet, calling him away from everything that suffocated him.
Silence and Panic
At home, Bethany’s phone buzzed again and again as she tried calling him.
“Larry, please pick up! Where are you?”
Nothing. The phone was off. Panic set in, twisting her chest tighter with every unanswered call.
“He wouldn’t just leave… would he?”
The realization settled slowly, painfully. She had no control over where he went or what he chose next.
Above the Clouds
At the small airport, Larry paused at the plane’s stairs. He glanced toward the horizon, thinking of the house he left behind — the arguments, the tension, the weight of expectations.
“This is for me,” he whispered.
The cabin door closed behind him as the plane lifted into the sky. Mountains stretched below, untouched and calm. For the first time in a long while, Larry felt space — real space — to breathe.
Somewhere below, Bethany stared at a dark phone screen, while above the clouds, Larry disappeared into the unknown — proving that sometimes love can’t hold someone still, and sometimes letting go is the only way forward.
