1. A Silence That Accused
Larry stood near the doorway, jacket still in his hand, as if leaving required more courage than staying. His eyes carried a tiredness Bethany had never noticed before. The house was silent, but not calm. It felt heavy, almost alive, pressing down on both of them.
Larry: “Sharra came today.”
Bethany didn’t turn around. She folded laundry with sharp, controlled movements, each crease perfect, each motion deliberate.
Bethany: “I know. Destiny told me.”
2. Cracks Beneath the Surface
Larry: “She came to apologize. She stood right there.”
Bethany: “I didn’t ask her to come.”
Her laugh was quiet and bitter. Larry stepped closer, frustration rising in his voice. Years of unresolved arguments seemed to fill the space between them.
Larry: “What do you actually want anymore?”
Bethany: “I want respect. I want people to stop crossing boundaries.”
3. When Love Becomes Exhaustion
Bethany crossed her arms defensively, a posture Larry had come to recognize too well.
Larry: “I’m exhausted. I’m tired of defending you… tired of explaining your anger.”
Bethany: “So now I’m the problem.”
Larry exhaled slowly, his voice breaking despite his effort to stay calm.
Larry: “You’ve made my life unbearable.”
4. Choosing Peace
Larry: “I’m going to Sharra.”
Bethany froze. The words hit her harder than any accusation ever had.
Bethany: “You’re choosing her over me?”
Larry: “I’m choosing peace.”
Tears shimmered in Bethany’s eyes as she stepped aside, pride holding her together.
5. The Calm Before the Storm
Cold air rushed in as Larry opened the door. He paused for a moment, doubt flickering across his face before he stepped outside.
Bethany: “You’ll regret this.”
Larry: “Maybe. But staying here is killing me.”
The door closed. The house fell silent once again.
Bethany whispered to the empty room, “You have no idea what’s coming.”
