Bethany Loses Control as Lynette Calls Again—Larry’s Montana Return Sparks Their First Explosive Fight Read More

When the Call Rings Twice
A single phone call follows Larry home from Montana — and it becomes the spark for the first war of his marriage.

Scene One — Larry Returns

Evening. Atlanta. The front door opens slowly.

Larry steps inside, travel bag still in hand. His face shows exhaustion — relief mixed with dread.

BETHANY: You’re back already? Montana didn’t keep you long.

Larry forces a small smile, sensing the tension before even putting his bag down.

LARRY: Long flight. I just wanted some peace.

Bethany folds her arms, eyes scanning him, already preparing for a fight that hasn’t started yet.

Scene Two — The Call

Larry’s phone lights up. The name “LYNETTE” flashes.

Bethany freezes.

LYNETTE (on phone): Hey… I just wanted to make sure you made it home safe.

Larry exhales — the tone shifts instantly.

LARRY: Yeah… yeah, I’m good. I’m laughing, actually. No problems on the road at all.

He chuckles softly. Bethany’s jaw tightens.

LYNETTE (on phone): I’m glad. I just wanted to check your temperature… make sure everything’s okay.

Bethany steps closer, listening to every word.

Scene Three — Jealousy Rising

Larry ends the call.

BETHANY: Why is your ex-wife calling you like that?

LARRY: She was just checking on me.

BETHANY: I don’t like it. I don’t accept it. You don’t need to be laughing with her.

Larry rubs his face, already tired.

LARRY: It was nothing.

The phone vibrates again.

Scene Four — The Second Ring

Bethany sees the screen light up again — Lynette.

BETHANY: She’s calling again?

Larry hesitates.

BETHANY: Answer it. Go ahead. Let me hear how happy you sound.

Larry answers.

LYNETTE (on phone): Sorry, I just wanted to make sure you weren’t uncomfortable after the drive.

Bethany snaps.

BETHANY: Hang up the phone!

Larry ends the call abruptly.

Scene Five — The First Fight

BETHANY: You think I don’t see it? You smile with her. You laugh with her.

LARRY: You’re overreacting.

BETHANY: I am your wife. Not her.

Larry raises his voice for the first time.

LARRY: She’s the mother of my children. That doesn’t disappear.

Silence. Heavy. Dangerous.

Scene Six — Silence After the Storm

Bethany turns away, shaking.

BETHANY: Montana followed you home… and so did she.

Larry stands alone, realizing this was only the beginning.

END ON SUSPENSE: That night, Larry sleeps beside Bethany — but his phone remains face down between them… waiting to ring again.
