Larry Gives Bethany a Final Warning — One More Emotional Trap and Their Marriage Ends in Divorce Read more

When manipulation stops working, the silence becomes dangerous.

INT. LIVING ROOM – NIGHT

The house is unusually quiet. A single lamp glows in the corner. Shadows stretch across the walls. Larry stands near the window, arms folded, jaw tight. Bethany sits on the couch, soft expression on her face — controlled, fragile. Silence hangs heavy.

BETHANY (soft voice)
I told you… it wasn’t my intention. I just… I get emotional. I see red sometimes.

Larry doesn’t move. He has heard this before.

LARRY (calmer than usual)
That’s the problem, Bethany.
You always “see red.”
And then later… it wasn’t your intention.

THE PATTERN

Bethany lowers her eyes. She clutches her hands together — almost rehearsed vulnerability.

BETHANY
So now I’m the bad guy? I’m trying. You don’t see that?

Larry exhales slowly. He removes his glasses and sets them on the table. That small action changes the atmosphere. He is done arguing. He is thinking bigger now.

LARRY
No. I see exactly what’s happening.

LARRY (CONT'D)
You set emotional traps.
You cry.
You soften your voice.
You make me feel guilty for reacting to your behavior.

THE SHIFT

Bethany’s eyes widen. She didn’t expect that.

BETHANY
That’s not fair.

LARRY
It is fair. Because I’m not falling for it anymore.

For the first time, Bethany’s expression shifts — real fear.

BETHANY
Larry… don’t do this.

LARRY (firm)
But from this point forward…
One more manipulation.
One more outburst.
One more excuse.

I promise you — I will file for divorce.

THE WORD THAT CHANGED THE ROOM

Silence. The word hits like a gunshot in the room.

BETHANY (whispers)
Divorce?

BETHANY (CONT'D)
That’s extreme. You wouldn’t do that.

LARRY
Try me.

Bethany stands up now, pacing slightly.

BETHANY
I said it wasn’t my intention! Why do you keep acting like I’m some villain?

LARRY
Because intentions don’t erase damage.

THE ULTIMATUM

BETHANY
So what do you want from me?

LARRY
I want you to decide. Right now.
Either change your behavior.
Or change this house.

In the hallway, faint movement — Brooke and Destiny are awake, listening quietly. They don’t step in. This is not their battle.

BETHANY (tears forming)
I never meant to push you this far.

LARRY
But you did.

THE TRAP EXPOSED

BETHANY (softens again)
Please… Let’s not throw everything away.

Larry studies her. He sees the familiar tone returning. The slight tilt of her head. The careful softness.

LARRY
That voice right there. That’s the trap.

LARRY (FINAL)
Either grow with me.
Or grow without me.

Larry walks upstairs. Each step echoes. Upstairs, a door closes. Bethany stands alone in the living room. The lamp flickers. The house feels colder. Uncertain.

For the first time, Bethany has no performance left — and no idea which move to make next.
